Sreemangal: Bangladesh's Tea Country, Explained
If Bangladesh has a green, quiet corner, it's Sreemangal. The tea estates here stretch further than you'd expect from a country known mostly for its rivers and delta — neat rows of tea bushes climbing gentle hills, workers moving between them with baskets on their backs.
Beyond the tea, Lawachara National Park is worth the trek — a small but dense forest that's home to the endangered Western Hoolock Gibbon, Bangladesh's only ape species. Early mornings give you the best chance of hearing their calls, even if spotting one takes patience.
And yes, the 7-layer tea is real — seven distinct layers of tea, milk, and spice poured with a steady hand into a single glass. It's more novelty than necessity, but it's a fun stop after a day of walking tea trails.
Two days is enough to get a feel for the region; three lets you slow down properly.
